The first two weeks we’ve featured actresses and wanted to change it up this week. “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey took the MMA world by storm a few years ago; breaking through the glass ceiling and becoming not only the first female main-eventer, but the biggest draw in the UFC. This was the first time women’s sports took the lead ahead of the men and there was nothing more exciting then watching her step inside the octagon with her undefeated streak.
Rousey quickly became a household name and was featured everywhere from television, magazines and even appearing in films. The first time I saw her fight, I didn’t think anything sexual about her – she was just this athlete at the top of her game kicking other people’s asses. It wasn’t until she began posing for magazines that I realized she was sexy. Just like her opponents, I too wouldn’t last five minutes (too corny?). Now that she is retired after suffering a brutal loss that really rocked her psyche; we still love her all the same. Today we pay tribute to one of the hottest athletes in the world!
Rousey won an Olympic medal at 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and became the first American woman to earn a medal in Judo (Bronze).
Her final MMA record is 12-2 with those twelve wins coming on a consecutive dominant streak. Winning the eleven of them in the first round and the majority coming by arm bar submission.
In 2015 ESPN voters voted her “The Best Female Athlete Ever” and became the highest paid UFC fighter that year for both male or female fighters.
Despite suffering a devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm and then finishing her career off with another loss; Ronda Rousey is considered by many – including myself – the greatest female fighter ever.
Rumours have been swirling lately that Rousey may make a jump into professional wrestling with the WWE; making many appearances on the show, it is only a matter of time before she steps in the ring. It will combine the two things she loves most – athleticism and entertainment – so I’m sure she’ll fit right in.
She is the GOAT! (Greatest Of All Time, for those who are asking)
